Part of Bond Street to close next week for sewer work

KTVZ

The city of Bend announced it will close Bond Street between Industrial Way and Arizona Avenue for up to four days, starting Monday, to accommodate a sewer line installation in the southern lane of Arizona Avenue.

Bond Street will be closed (between Industrial Way and Arizona Avenue) to northbound through traffic. Businesses and offices accessed from that block are still open and local traffic will be allowed into associated parking areas.

Northbound traffic on Bond Street will be detoured from Industrial Way to Colorado Avenue. (see map).

The city said to “expect some delays.”

One lane of eastbound traffic on Arizona Avenue will remain open with periodic delays to accommodate construction operations.

Bend’s sewer system is near capacity, officials said, and some sewer pipes routinely approach overflow levels. Improvements are underway to relieve critical sewer capacity issues.

The pipe under Arizona Avenue will connect sewer lines from the westside, cross the Deschutes River on the Colorado Bridge, run under Colorado Avenue and Arizona Avenue to Second Street, and connect to the interceptor that transports sewage by gravity to Bend’s water reclamation facility east of the city.
