Redmond man indicted on aggravated murder charge
A Deschutes County grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging a 23-year-old Redmond man with aggravated murder in last Friday’s fatal shooting of Rebekah Gomes.
Mario Emanuel Morataya also was indicted on charges of second-degree attempted kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon in the killing of Gomes, who police said was shot in the back as she fled the man she was trying to break up with.
“The court issued an order prohibiting the parties from discussing details of the case, so there is not much I can share at this time<" District Attorney John Hummel said in a statement.
“But suffice it to say that (I) and the team in the district attorney’s office have made this case a top priority and will do everything we can to ensure justice is served,” Hummel said.
Morataya is due back in court next Monday at 1:30 p.m.
