A powder present: Snow dumps on Mt. Bachelor
Yet another storm is brewing. In the last 24 hours, Mt. Bachelor has already received 20 more inches of snow, and skiers and snowboarders are definitely taking advantage of the fresh powder.
“The mountain is so epic right now — it’s dumping, it’s light it’s cold, it’s filling in — we’re getting free refills,” snowboarder Lindsey Voreis said Tuesday.
After last year’s disappointing season, skiers are happy for the fresh snow, even if it means bearing the storm.
“It was supposed to lighten up today, but it’s still snowing now, and we’re expecting another foot this afternoon and throughout the evening — and another foot or more tomorrow,” said Mt. Bachelor Marketing Manager Stirling Cobb.
Last season, the resort’s overall snowfall was only 211 inches. Already this season, Mt. Bachelor has received 205 inches. The current snow depth is 112 inches at mid-mountain.
“Its nice to see snow continuing to fall and fill it in, because seeing grass last year in the middle of January was pretty depressing,” Voreis said.
Christmas break is critical for the mountain’s business, and judging by the crowded parking lot and long lift lines, Mt. Bachelor’s business looks good.
“We’re saying, ‘Keep the powder boards waxed up, because that’s the only board you’re going to need this season,'” Cobb joked.
Snow is forecast to fall throughout the week, providing more opportunities to ski or board on fresh powder.
