Bend’s new Pavilion ice rink set to debut Monday

KTVZ

The Bend Park and Recreation District announced Tuesday that The Pavilion, the community’s new ice rink and recreation facility, will open to the public next Monday.

“We’re excited to invite the community to skate during the holiday break and get ice skating, hockey and curling programs underway,” said Matt Mercer, the park district’s director of Recreation.

The opening of the largest facility in a $29 million voter-approved bond measure had been delayed a few weeks as crews put final touches on the rink.

Open skate sessions and adult hockey begin on Dec. 28; adult curling begins Jan. 3. All other registration programs begin the first week of January.

“The Pavilion has been a long time coming, with many people working for the past decade to bring this facility to reality,” Mercer added. “The community supported this new recreation center through the 2012 bond measure, and everyone involved is pleased to open the doors for all to enjoy for generations to come.”

On Sunday, staff training will be held at The Pavilion and will include having staff on the ice. Although it may appear open, The Pavilion will be closed to the public during this training so that staff can conduct a final run-through of facility systems and procedures.

The holiday skate schedule features extended public sessions for December 28 through January 3 and is as follows:
