From a railing vandalism seen around the world to a shocking lottery winner and the world’s oldest cat, here are some of the local stories NewsChannel 21 reported during 2015 that went viral, sparking lots of attention:
Tumalo Falls Etching
Back in May, Brett Nelson took a photo of a man and his children etching their names into the railing at Tumalo Falls,and his Facebook post about the encounter sparked millions of shares — and a Forest Service investigation. In September, the man was identified at Scott Duke, 57, of Bothell, Washington. He was slapped with a $200 fine.
Oregon Lottery Megabucks Winner
In August, someone won the $6.4 million Oregon Lottery Megabucks. Then it was just a long wait to see who the winner was – and what a surprise it turned out to be. In December, an Iraqi man came forward to claim the big prize. He said he had bought the ticket through an online website, which had it bought for him at a Bend deli.
Death of “Buck” Norris
Back in May, residents of Central Oregon were saddened to hear about the death of a famous wildlife icon, “Buck” Norris. The large buck was known for his massive, unique antlers. He was killed on Highway 97 when hit by a car.
World’s Oldest Cat
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest cat is 26 years old and lives right here in Sisters. Corduroy the cat was adopted by his owner when she was only six years old. He is 124 in cat years.
Father-Son Duo
Back in October, Paul and Bobby Evers’ photo went viral, two years after they originally took it. They dressed up as each other for Halloween, stumping many as to who was who.
