KTVZ

A Crooked River Ranch teen who suffered a gunshot wound in South Carolina Wednesday morning was taken off life support at a hospital and passed away Thursday, police said.

The shooting was reported just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Wild Horse Road at Hilton Head Island.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office late Thursday confirmed the teen’s identity as Rae Prock, 17, who just recently moved from Crooked River Ranch to South Carolina last month to be closer to family.

Investigators told NewsChannel 21 earlier they are treating this shooting as a suspicious incident at this time. Police located a handgun inside the mobile home, which they believe was used in the shooting.

The coroner’s office said Prock died of a single gunshot wound, but the manner of her death had not yet been determined. Investigators are using evidence collected at the crime scene to help determine that.

Prock’s boyfriend was in the mobile home at the time of the shooting. He was questioned by investigators earlier today but no arrests have been made.

Here’s Thurssday’s news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 4:45 PM today, the female wounded in yesterday morning’s Wild Horse Road shooting incident was pronounced dead at Savannah Memorial. She has been identified as 17 year old Rae Prock. Beaufort County Coroner Ed. Allen advised her cause of death was as a result of a single gunshot wound, but the manner of her death has not yet been determined. Numerous items of evidence collected by investigators and pending examination/analysis at the Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are expected to aid in that determination.

Sheriff’s Office investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Numerous witnesses and persons associated with Rae Prock were interviewed over the past two days and more interviews are expected. As of this time no one has been criminally charged in connection with this incident. It could take up to several weeks for all of the forensic examination/analysis to be completed.
