Slow-speed pursuit leads to Prineville man’s arrest

A slow-speed pursuit of a driver who refused to pull over led to a high-risk, guns-drawn traffic stop and the arrest of a Prineville man Wednesday evening on drug and other charges, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a deputy tried to make a traffic stop on a 1994 Honda Accord in the 100 block of Southwest Deer Street in Prineville for expired plates and failure to stop at a stop sign, said Detective Sergeant Ryan Seaney.

The driver, later identified as Case Adams, 24, of Prineville, failed to yield, leading the deputy on a slow-speed pursuit for several blocks, Seaney said.

During the pursuit, the deputy saw the driver looking around, making furtive movements in the car, and appeared to be trying to hide something, the sergeant added.

The driver pulled into a driveway in the 400 block of Southwest Fifth Place and the deputy, assisted by Prineville police, initiated the high-risk traffic stop.

Adams was detained, along with a female passenger, Seaney said. An investigation turned up a pipe with methamphetamine in the car, and Adams was found to have the drug concealed on his person.

Adams was taken to the Crook County Jail and booked on charges of attempting to elude a police officer and meth possession, Seaney said. He later was released from jail under the matrix formula due to lack of space, a jail officer said.

The female passenger was interviewed and released at the scene.
