KTVZ

Redmond police had a busy Friday morning, finding two stolen cars – one in which the driver crashed into a power pole and ran, the second leading to a guns-drawn traffic stop and arrest, officers said.

Around 2:40 a.m., officers took a report of a car stolen earlier in the night, a brown 2015 Nissan Altima, said Sgt. Hank Majetich.

About 40 minutes later, officers spotted the car being driven in the area of Southwest 31 st Street and Obsidian Avenue, Majetich said. They tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped off and a pursuit continued south onto the Old Bend-Redmond Highway

The car crashed into a power pole in the area of Southwest 93 rd Street and Hereford Avenue, where the driver got out and ran, the sergeant said.

A Redmond police K-9 team conducted an area search track but was unable to find the driver, described only as a white male adult, with dark hair and glasses. But Majetich said officers did collect evidence at the scene which could help investigators identify him.

Redmond Police thanked the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police for their assistance in the incident.

Around 7:27 a.m., Redmond police took a report of a stolen car earlier in the morning, described as a black 1997 Honda Civic, Majetich said.

Less than 20 minutes later, a Redmond officer spotted the car in the area of Umatilla Park. A “high-risk” traffic stop was conducted and the driver, identified as Brian Wynn, 23, of Redmond, was taken into custody.

Wynn was booked into the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. He was released less than an hour later on his own recognizance, a jail officer said.

Majetich said the incidents were unrelated. Both stolen cars were recovered and returned to their owners.

Anyone with information about either incident was asked to contact the Redmond Police Department at 541-504-3400 or Deschutes County’s non-emergency dispatch number at 541-693-6911.
