Bend DAR chapter announces essay winners
The Bend Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced local winners for the DAR’s annual American History Essay Contest.
The 8th grade winner is Zoe Crosson of Sky View Middle School in Bend. The 7th grade winner is Ellie Tomlinson, also a student at Sky View. Both will be recognized with a DAR medal and certificate at a ceremony on April 9 .
This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Stamp Act and the essay topic asked students to describe a colonial family’s discussion about it and what role it played in organizing the colonists against the British.
Also being honored with awards for “Outstanding Work in American History” are second-place winners from Sky View: 8th grader Rabecka Moffit and 7th grader Chloe Helikson. All four are students of social studies teachers Ms. Jennifer Laduca and Ms. Nicole Henry.
