BrightSide seeks kitten season volunteers, donations
Kitten season is the name animal shelters and rescue groups give to the time of the year when most kittens are born, which usually ranges from April to October.
In 2015, BrightSide received more than 200 kittens less than 8 weeks in age who needed fostering prior to adoption. Thanks to volunteers, these very young kittens, most of whom arrived without a mother, were fostered in private homes until they were healthy enough for adoption.
In preparation for this year’s kitten season, BrightSide Animal Center is hosting a Kitten and Puppy Foster Volunteer Workshop on Sunday March 20 th from 2 – 3:30 p.m. at the BrightSide shelter, 1355 NE Hemlock Avenue in Redmond. This event is designed to train new volunteers in how to safely raise and nurture kittens and puppies until they are old enough for adoption. Veterinary staff will be part of the workshop to help answer questions.
BrightSide is also seeking donations (complete list at www.brightsideanimals.org/donations/kitten-wish-list) of fostering supplies such as small nursing bottles, towels and blankets. Donations are accepted at the BrightSide Animal Center shelter, 1355 NE Hemlock Avenue in Redmond, Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
