Bend chef others to compete with Girl Scout cookie creations

KTVZ

As local Girl Scouts practice people skills, money management and business ethics at cookie booths throughout the region, local chefs are putting the finishing touches on their entries for the first ever Girl Scout Cookie-inspired Recipe Competition, hosted by Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Just in time for Girl Scout Cookie season, this exciting competition challenges some of the region’s most celebrated female chefs to “think outside of the cookie box” with original recipes featuring Girl Scout Cookies. Not limited to desserts, these creative culinary minds will find new and surprising ways to use Thin Mints®, Samoas®, Tagalongs® and other favorites.

Participants include Sarah Pliner of Aviary, Johanna Ware of Smallwares, Tamara Huffman of Baldwin Saloon, Juli Labhart of Bend’s Bont – Natural Artisan Gelato, Cathy Whims of Nostrana, Tiffany Norton of Party Downtown, and Rachel Marie Florip of Pine Shed Ribs & BBQ.

Recipes will be put to the ultimate test starting February 26, as a week-long public voting period opens at girlscoutsosw.org. Voters will evaluate finalists based on recipes, photos and a menu-style description of each creation. While casting their vote, community members can enter to win a case of their favorite Girl Scout Cookies!

The recipe with the most votes at the close of the voting period on March 4 will be named the inaugural winner of the Girl Scout Cookie-inspired Recipe Competition and honored with an exclusive placard and prize package. All recipes will be compiled into a special edition digital cookbook available for free download at girlscoutsosw.org beginning March 9.

The iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program runs through March 13. Thin Mints®, Samoas®, Tagalongs®, Do-si-dos®, Trefoils®, Savannah Smiles®, and Rah-Rah Raisins™ can be purchased from Girl Scout Cookie booths for $4 a box. Select booths will have a limited supply of gluten free Toffee-tastic™ for $5. Customers can find a booth nearby with the Cookie Locator or use the Cookie Locator app available for iPhone or Android.
