NE Bend ‘nuisance campers’ anger neighbors
Residents of a northeast Bend neighborhood are voicing dismay over what they call “nuisance campers” trashing their neighborhood.
“Frustrated, very frustrated,” Alan Aronson of Allybrooke Custom Homes said Friday.
Aronson is building homes at the intersection of Purcell Boulevard and Indigo Lane. Over the past week, he’s had to deal with some unwanted guests.
Aronson said he’s having a hard time selling homes to potential buyers due to the eyesore they see.
“It makes it hard to sell houses. We’re trying to attract families in this subdivision,” Aronson said.
New buyers are taking a second look after neighbors said they were threatened by transients.
The city of Bend does have a camping ordinance, which prohibits people from camping on city property or city parks.
The campers living in the motor home say they’re not breaking any laws.
“This is the first time we have a problem with neighbors — we’re not even in their neighborhood,” William Tipton said.
Neighbors told NewsChannel 21 this week they’ve been threatened by transients living in a nearby RV.
They said police have been called out several times to deal with the issue – but each time, the transients return.
