Bend man arrested after shot fired during fight
A 22-year-old Bend man was arrested Sunday afternoon, accused of firing a gunshot during a fight with another man at a northeast Bend home earlier in the day, police said.
Officers were sent just before 6 a.m. to a home in the 20600 block of Tango Creek Avenue on a reported dispute, said Lt. Nick Parker. Neighbors said two men were in an altercation outside and a gunshot was heard.
Before officers arrived, one of the men left in a car, Parker said.
Officers contacted the 23-year-old alleged victim at the home, who said Edgar Puga Castro had refused to leave his home, and a fight ensued, Parker said. He said Castro brandished a handgun and fired one shot. The shot did not hit the victim, the lieutenant said, but he had minor injuries from the fight.
Around 12:40 p.m., officers found Castro’s car parked at the Ariel Glen Apartments at 1700 SE Tempest Drive. Shortly after 3 p.m., he came out of an apartment and was taken into custody without incident.
Castro was arrested on charges including first-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree disorderly conduct, Parker said. Jail records also showed a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a knife. His bail totaled $40,000.
The investigation is continuing, Parker said, and anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Bend Police at 541-693-6911.
