OSP: Culver man injured in DUII rollover crash
A 21-year-old Culver man injured in an apparent DUII rollover crash on the Culver Highway Tuesday night made it to Highway 97, where he flagged down a passing off-duty paramedic and was flown to St. Charles Bend for treatment, Oregon State Police reported Wednesday.
Troopers said Zachary Michael Lofting was heading south on the Culver Highway, approaching Southwest King Lane, near Highway 97, and reportedly was speeding when his car left the road and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.
Lofting got out and headed west across about 400 yards of sagebrush to Highway 97, where he began flagging down traffic, troopers said.
The off-duty medic and her husband stopped to assist Lofting, who collapsed in the highway shoulder with an apparent medical condition, they said.
Oregon State Police were notified around 9:45 p.m. and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies also were called to the scene. A search by law enforcement and fire medics found the car on the Culver Highway.
Lofting was flown by air ambulance to the Bend hospital. Troopers said evidence of DUII was found at the scene, while hospital staff advised he had a blood-alcohol count of .15.
