Redmond PD arrest fugitive after slow-speed chase

KTVZ

A Redmond man wanted for parole violation refused to pull over for police Friday afternoon and led officers on a brief slow-speed pursuit through downtown Redmond at speeds of up to 25 mph before spike strips prompted him to pull into a card-lock gas station, jump out of the moving car and run. Officers said they caught him there and he was arrested and jailed.

A Redmond officer tried to stop a black 1996 Lincoln MK8 for expired car registration around 4:15 p.m. Friday near Southwest Seventh Street and Forest Avenue, said Lt. Jesse Petersen.

But the driver, identified as Glen James Carroll 42, refused to stop and drove through the downtown corridor and onto the bypass (Highway 97) at speeds of 6 to 25 mph.

Officers successfully deployed spike strips in the area of Southeast Franklin Street and East Antler Avenue, near the CFN commercial card-lock gas station, the lieutenant said.

Carroll pulled into the gas station, ending the six-minute pursuit, and got out of the car as it was still moving, heading west in the parking lot. The car eventually stopped at the yellow barrier poles, Petersen said. Carroll tried to run, but was caught by officers in the gas station parking lot.

During the stop, officers found more than 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, Petersen said.

Carroll remained held without bail Saturday at the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on the parole violation warrant, along with new charges of reckless driving, misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, two counts of attempting to elude police, failure to perform the duties of a driver and drug possession.

Petersen said Redmond police wanted to thank Oregon State Police for their assistance in the investigation.
