Bend woman killed in Parkway motorcycle-bicycle crash
A 25-year-old Bend woman was killed and a bicyclist seriously injured in a collision Saturday night on an on-ramp to the Bend Parkway that also involved a car, police said Sunday.
Police responded around 8:20 p.m. to the reported crash on the Empire Avenue on-ramp to the southbound parkway, said Sgt. Eric Hagen.
Motorcycle rider Suzann Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. Bicyclist Jacob Raines, 36, also of Bend, was taken to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries, Hagen said. The hospital’s house supervisor said Raines was in fair condition at midday Sunday. Jevan Bloss, 18, also of Bend, who was driving a 1999 Volvo, was unhurt.
A preliminary investigation indicates Miller was riding a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle on the southbound on-ramp when she collided with Raines, who was riding a bicycle on the on-ramp, Hagan said. That resulted in a secondary collision involving Bloss’s car.
The crash and investigation led to a partial closure of the southbound parkway and a longer closure of the on-ramp for several hours. Hagan said police and fire medics were assisted by ODOT at the scene.
The crash is under investigation by the Bend Police Department’s traffic and detective units, Hagan said.
