A grand opening celebration for Oregon State University–Cascades and its first academic building, Tykeson Hall, will take place at the new campus on Tuesday, Sept. 13 and include a ceremony and community open house.

The OSU-Cascades campus is the first university campus to open in Oregon in a half-century. Located near downtown Bend, the Old Mill District and business corridors, it encompasses 10 acres and will serve 1,890 students at full capacity. It is located at 1500 SW Chandler Avenue.

Tykeson Hall is named in honor of the philanthropy and leadership support contributed by the Tykeson family of Bend and Eugene.

Development of the campus has been supported by the Tykeson Family Foundation since 2012, when the family’s initial $1 million gift launched OSU-Cascades’ first capital campaign. More recently, the Tykeson Family Foundation committed an additional $1 million to propel the next phase of campus expansion.

The grand opening celebration starts with a formal ceremony at 11 a.m. that will include presentations by OSU President Ed Ray, OSU-Cascades Vice President Becky Johnson, state Rep. and OSU Foundation trustee Knute Buehler, Amy Tykeson, Oregon Poet Laureate Elizabeth Woody, and OSU-Cascades student government president Molly Svendsen.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown has also been invited to speak at the event.

The ceremony will be followed by the official opening of Tykeson Hall, and a campus open house until 2:00 p.m.

Parking and Transportation

Local guests are encouraged to use public transportation to the campus via CET routes 10 and 12.

Event parking will be provided off campus at the OSU-Cascades off-site parking lot (the former Mt. Bachelor parking area) located at 1000 SW Bradbury Way, at the intersection of Simpson Avenue and Columbia Street.

From the off-site lot, options will be available to transport guests the short distance to the new campus, including a trolley shuttle, bikeshare bicycles, Zipcars and walking.

Accommodations for disabilities may be made by calling 541-322-3100. For additional information visit OSUcascades.edu/celebrate.
