Bicyclist hits Redmond man’s pickup-RV, dies on Hwy. 199
A bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon when he struck a Redmond man’s pickup and RV on Highway 199 in southern Oregon, State Police reported.
Troopers and emergency personnel responded around 12:45 p.m. to the reported crash on Highway 199 in Selma, Capt. Bill Fugate said.
A preliminary investigation found that Michael Mann, 58, of Redmond, was heading south on the highway in a 1997 Ford pickup towing a 25-foot RV when the bicyclist, later identified as Robert L. Green, 45, address unknown, tried to cross the highway and struck the side of the pickup, Fugate said.
The bicyclist was thrown from his bike and struck the RV. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mann was unhurt.
Alcohol is being considered a contributing factor, Fugate said, as witnesses said they believed Green was impaired.
The crash investigation reduced the highway to one lane of alternating travel for two hours.
