FS plans more trail closures in west Bend next week

KTVZ

Beginning Monday, the Deschutes National Forest will expand the West Bend Area Closure to include the Voodoo Trail from intersection 11 to intersection 19 and road 4601290 south of its intersection with 4601370.

Grand Slam and portions of the COD trail as well as roads in the closure area remain closed. All trail closures are in effect Monday through Friday and the roads are closed seven days a week.

The public is reminded that operators are working with large equipment cutting and moving trees within the closure. These operators are focused on their work and cannot see people or dogs in the area and may not be able to prevent an accident.

Heavy equipment can hurl woody debris over 500 feet and presents a danger to the public within the closure areas. The public is asked to respect all signed closures for their safety as well as the safety of others.

The public is encouraged to explore mountain biking in other areas, including the Wanoga area trails, Swampy area trails (Swampy Lakes Loop trail is closed), Mt Bachelor Bike Park, Shevlin Park, Newberry Caldera and Swamp Wells trails, and trails on the Ochoco National Forest.
