Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office hoping to set up ‘Sober Station’

KTVZ

At a press conference on Wednesday, Sheriff Shane Nelson discussed his offices plan to open up a ‘Sober Station’ in Deschutes County. The station would help people dealing with a mental health crisis.

The concept is still in it’s early stages, but is not original. Other counties around the state have these stations to help with people going through a crisis.

“What we’re looking at here is a combination center, we want a sober station and a crisis stabilization center because on any given day, we might have a vulnerable citizen that is experiencing one or the other,” Sheriff Nelson said to the media.

Nelson says his office is currently working with behavioral health to secure funding for the sober stations.
