Elevated levels of lead found in water outlets

Seven of the 155 water outlets tested by the Bend Park & Recreation District this summer showed elevated levels of lead, but none is believed to be a danger to public health.

The Bend Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/2clwy4V) that people in buildings where lead was found were warned against drinking water from those fixtures.

Officials say they can correct the problem by replacing the fixtures.

None of the sites where lead was detected is frequently used or a source of drinking water. In all cases, the lead came from a plumbing fixture rather than the pipes or the water supply.

Lead was detected in the umpires’ shower at Vince Genna Stadium, a janitor’s sink in Pacific Park, hose bibs and a valve at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. It also was found at Tillicum Ranch and Shevlin Park.
