Meet your 2017 Sisters Rodeo Queen

KTVZ

“The Biggest Little Show in the World” is already preparing for next June. Two days after she was crowned Sisters Rodeo queen, we introduce you to Emylia Breckel.

Breckel said Tuesday this is a dream come true. She has been working for this her whole life, and she also said she will put a great deal of time into making this rodeo a success. For her, this crown is a “second full-time job.”

Breckel is no stranger to the rodeo circle.

“I’ve always been one of those little girls; the one that would push her face up against the fence, trying to get a better look at the girls with the big hair and the crowns on their head. And it was always my dream,”she said.

This is not her first crown — it’s actually her third. She almost gave the sport up, but decided five days before try-outs to give it another go.

“Rodeo is an aspect of the horse world that I can’t let go of. I absolutely love being a representative of this sport,” Breckel said.

She said this crown is extra special to her, because unlike the other two rodeos, the Sisters Rodeo is a part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, which brings cowboys and cowgirls from all around the United States.

“Sisters originally got its name ‘The Biggest Little Show in the World’ because it was competitive with Cheyenne Frontier Days and Pendleton rodeo. And those are some big names in the rodeo world,” Breckel said.

Rodeo is competitive, and time consuming. Breckel puts her heart into it. She has had 18 years with horses, or every year of her life, plus six years dedicated to practicing for rodeo.

On top of her newest title, she was the 2016 Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo Queen. Back in 2015, she received the Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo Princess title.

Outside of the rodeo world, Breckel works a full-time job. She never saw herself in the film industry, but she is learning to build camera stabilization gear, and said she’s loving it.

She also said being a rodeo queen is another full-time job, and one that she might be giving up soon.

“As of now ,I think this will be my last title, go out on a high,” she said. “I’m definitely going to enjoy this year, but we’ll see — maybe I’ll give myself six days next year to try out for something.”.

Right now, Emylia said her job as queen is to prepare and promote the show, which includes taking care of her two horses, Casper and Duchess. The Sisters Rodeo is the second weekend in June.
