An Aloha man involved in at least two hit-and-run crashes in Redmond on Tuesday later entered a stranger’s home, acting confused, according to police who subdued him with a taser and arrested him on DUII-drugs, reckless driving and other charges.

Officers responded around 2:20 p.m. to the Tobacco Jo business on Northwest Sixth Street in regards to a two-vehicle hit-and-run, said Redmond Police Lt. Keith Knight. The suspect car was described as a blue 2007 GMC Envoy SUV.

While responding to the crash, Deschutes County 911 dispatchers advised police of at least one other hit-and-run allegedly involving the same SUV, Knight said.

Around 3:20 p.m., residents in the 4100 block of Northwest 21 st Street called dispatch to report a man acting confused had come in their door and left. Knight said he later was identified as Robert Jay Nelson, 28, of Aloha.

Sheriff’s deputies and Redmond police responded and contacted Nelson, and were able to determine he was the driver in the hit-and-run at Tobacco Jo, Knight said.

“Nelson refused to comply with officer commands and officers subsequently used a Taser to subdue him,” then arrested him without further incident, Knight said in a news release.

He was booked into the county jail in Bend Tuesday night and held on $35,000 bail, facing charges including DUII-drugs, two counts of hit and run, reckless driving, interfering with police and criminal trespass.

Anyone with information regarding the case was asked to contact Redmond Police at 541-693-6911, reference case 16-288833. Police thanked the sheriff’s office, Redmond Fire Department and St. Charles Redmond during the investigation.
