Remains found near trail in Columbia River Gorge
TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say human remains have been discovered off of a trail in the Columbia River Gorge near Cascade Locks.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies responded to a call Friday that remains were found in the Tooth Rock Trailhead area.
Search and rescue crews and detectives worked through the afternoon to recover the remains.
The remains were turned over to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s office for identification.
No further details were immediately released.
A 21-year-old woman was reported missing in that area last month.
Several days of searching failed to find any sign of Anna Schmidt. Her car was discovered in a parking lot near the trail Oct. 20.
