Homeowners raise funds for Newberry Habitat home

KTVZ

Under the leadership of the late Jim Putney, homeowners in the Crosswater community near Sunriver collectively raised $100,000 to donate to Newberry Habitat for the construction of a new home in La Pine, which will be dedicated on Sunday, November 20 at 3 p.m.

Michelle Murphy, a long-time resident of La Pine and single mother, completed 400 sweat-equity hours to help build her house. She will obtain a mortgage from Newberry Habitat in order to purchase the home. In addition to parenting her 2-year-old, Michelle works full time as a deli manager and is currently enrolled at COCC to pursue a degree in nursing.

Newberry Habitat for Humanity typically raises funds for building the homes and purchasing land by holding numerous fundraisers and a capital campaign each year. The Crosswater-funded project was the 27th home built by Newberry Habitat for Humanity. The Newberry Habitat Board of Directors would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Crosswater community and homeowners.
