DCSO Capt. Bocciolatt announces retirement

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Detective Captain John Bocciolatt announced his retirement Tuesday, effective immediately, Sheriff Shane Nelson announced Wednesday..

“It is with sadness that I must retire and cut my time short with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “I have been diagnosed with a medical condition. I have completed the commitments I made to ensure a stable future for the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.”

“I have given Sheriff Nelson my permission to call me at any time in the future as I believe where the office is going and believe in how Sheriff Nelson conducts business. I admire how the community supports their Sheriff’s Office. With all of my respect and admiration I thank you (Sheriff Nelson) and all of the people at the Sheriff’s Office that I fondly remember and respect as friends and servant leaders of law enforcement.” stated Bocciolatt.

Captain Bocciolatt completed projects to include personnel investigations and a thorough review of all personnel policies and procedures, Nelson said

Nelson stated, “We knew when Captain Bocciolatt was hired that it would not be long-term as he already devoted nearly 30 years to a career in law enforcement.”

“We acquired a tremendous amount of knowledge and perspective from Captain Bocciolatt on how organizations conduct business to include policy and procedures, hiring and background investigations and have improved as an organization,” the sheriff added.

“I thank Captain Bocciolatt for his commitment to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office over the past year. I am happy for him and his family that he is doing what is right to maintain his health; he will be missed,” Nelson added.
