The Bend Park and Recreation District is seeking adult volunteers to coach youth basketball for the 2017 Youth Basketball League. Program participants are boys and girls in third, fourth and fifth grades.

The basketball season is Jan. 3 to March 4 . Coaches volunteer approximately five hours per week for the 10-week season. Practices are held on two weekday evenings per week with games played on Saturdays.

Basketball experience is preferred but not required. Training and on-going support is provided to volunteer coaches.

“Volunteers must enjoy working with youth and be able to create a positive, encouraging recreational environment for all players,” said Rich Ekman, sports program coordinator. “Volunteer coaches are an essential part of the program, providing support with program logistics, coaching and mentoring youth.”

All volunteer adult coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.

The online volunteer application and background check available at http://www.bendparksandrec.org/volunteers/volunteer-application/ .

Pre-season coach training is Wednesday , Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. at the District Office, 799 SW Columbia St.
