Mt. Bachelor opens: It’s all downhill from here

Mt. Bachelor Ski and Snowboard Resort opened for the season as scheduled on Friday morning as many snow-lovers flocked to the lifts to be the first to glide down the slopes.

Opening day looked like it could have been pushed back after snow snow totals on the base were low earlier this week, but Mother Nature provided enough snow for the resort to open up Sunshine Accelerator.

“I love it,” skier Claudia Harden said. “This is the first time I’ve ever been here, and we came up for Thanksgiving dinner, and we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ski here.”

Harden is from Northern California and came to Mt. Bachelor to enjoy the slopes with her son.

Although just one chair lift was open, skiers were excited to hit the snow.

“Sunshine Accelerator is perfect, especially for people just trying it out and getting used to it, trying new boards and skis that they just bought,” snowboarder William White said.

White moved from Oklahoma to Central Oregon, and his passion for snowboarding is growing every season.

“The powder is pretty good on the outside edges of the run,” White said.

Mt. Bachelor officials expect more snow to stick to the base this weekend, making it possible to open more lifts.

Resort officials ask people to check their website and social media for updates.
