Man accused of running over Bend mother’s foot
A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday on charges he rammed his mother’s car in her Bend home’s driveway and ran over her foot as she tried to get his keys from the ignition to keep him from driving while intoxicated, police said.
Deschutes 911 dispatchers got a call around 2:30 p.m. from the 69-year-old woman claiming her son, Macario Arenas, was drunk and was ramming her vehicle in the driveway of her home at 322 Southeast Fifth Street, said Sgt. Juli-Ann McConkey.
The woman’s car was parked behind her son’s as he was trying to leave, McConkey said, adding that neighbors also called 911 to report the dispute.
Arenas ran from the scene as police arrived. The sergeant said Arenas traveled through several backyards, causing unspecified damage to neighboring properties.
Arenas was apprehended without incident at Southeast Fifth and Logsden streets, McConkey said. He was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and booked on charges including second-degree assault and first- and second-degree criminal trespass. Initial bail was set at $67,000, according to online jail records.
Bend Fire medics arrived and took the woman to St. Charles Bend for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
