Bend police ID pedestrian struck, killed on Third Street

KTVZ

Bend police on Friday identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed Wednesday evening on Northeast Third Street near the Bend Parkway overpass.

Lt. Clint Burleigh said 26-year-old transient Ryan Patrick Hunt died at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said three vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2015 Lincoln Navigator, a 2003 Mazda Protege and a 2004 GMC Yukon. They also identified the drivers, but NewsChannel 21 will not do so until and unless any charges are filed in the matter.

Burleigh said he could not confirm which or how many vehicles struck Hunt, only that three were involved in the crash.

The investigation continues, he said, and no more information is being released at this time.

The crash occurred just north of the northbound parkway on-ramp and south of the Butler Market Road/Mt. Washington Drive intersection. The pedestrian had died at the scene before officers arrived, Burleig said.

Around 8:30 p.m., two hours after the crash, Burleigh said due to the complex investigation, Third Street would be closed for another four to six hours. Southbound traffic was detoured onto Division Street and northbound traffic onto the parkway.
