Landslide still blocks U.S. Highway 20 near Toledo
TOLEDO, Ore. (AP) – A landslide has closed U.S. Highway 20 just west of Toledo, and removing the debris was taking longer than expected.
The state Department of Transportation said both lanes were blocked Thursday morning and the highway will be closed much of the day.
Later Thursday, they said the highway likely would remain closed until midday Friday because about 4,000 yards of material and at least 60 trees were blocking both lanes.
Crews were removing all debris and stabilizing the slope so the road could reopen.
A local detour is in place.
ODOT said alternative routes include Highway 34 south of U.S. 20 or Highway 18 to the north.
