Prineville woman hurt in Juniper Canyon crash

A Prineville woman was injured in a rollover crash on Southeast Juniper Canyon Road south of town Thursday night, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 8 p.m. to Juniper Canyon Road near Morningside Drive on the reported injury single-vehicle crash, said Deputy Dan Smith.

They arrived to find a 2005 Honda Accord upside down off the west side of the road, Smith said.

An investigation found driver Kimberly Wasson, 55, was heading north when her car left the west side of the road, traveling along the shoulder for about 300 feet, then re-entering the roadway, the deputy said.

Wasson then over-corrected and began sliding, he said. The car slid through a ditch and struck a tree before rolling onto its roof.

Wasson, alone in the car, sustained what Smith called “moderate injuries” and was taken to St. Charles Prineville. A hospital spokeswoman said she was not listed Friday morning as a patient in Prineville or Bend, making it likely she was treated and released.

Smith said “alcohol and/or another impairing substance is believed to be a factor in the crash.” No citations have been issued as the investigation continues, Smith said.
