Prineville fugitive caught, arrested after brief chase
A 29-year-old Prineville man wanted on an outstanding warrant ran from a parked car when a police officer arrived Wednesday evening, prompting a brief chase and nearby arrest, police said.
Around 5:15 p.m., police responded to reported drug activity involving a car parked in the area of Northwest Meadow Lakes Drive, said Sgt. Jesse Peterson.
When an officer arrived, a man identified as John Elvrum ran away, Peterson said. Crook County sheriff’s deputies responded to help find him after a brief chase on foot in the area.
Elvrum was found hiding outdoors in a nearby trailer park, the sergeant said. Officers found a gun, ammunition and suspected narcotics.
Elvrum was taken to the Crook County Jail, where he was held without bail on Crook County and local corrections warrants on original charges of methamphetamine possession, interfering with a peace/parole and probation officer, third-degree escape and second-degree assault. New charges include felon in possession of a firearm and meth possession.
