Man struck, seriously injured crossing NW Bend street
A 72-year-old man from the southern Oregon town of Shady Cove was struck by a car and critically injured while crossing a northwest Bend intersection Friday evening, police said Saturday as they looked for any witnesses to the crash.
Police and fire medics responded at 6:26 p.m. to the reported pedestrian-car crash at Northwest Galveston Avenue and 12 th Street, said Bend police Cpl. Matt Baldwin.
An investigation determined Richard David Fields, 72, of Shady Cove, a town of about 3,000 in Jackson County, was crossing the intersection near 12 th Street when he was struck by a 2010 Honda CRV driven by Andrew Zurovsky, 47, of Bend that was heading east on Galveston, Baldwin said.
“The exact location and direction Fields was crossing Galveston Avenue is under investigation,” Baldwin said in a news release.
Fields was taken to St. Charles Bend and was in critical condition late Friday night, the corporal said.
The driver stopped and remained on the scene and cooperated with crash investigators, Baldwin said, adding that “neither speed or alcohol are expected to be factors in the crash” and no citations have been issued.
The crash investigation shut two blocks of Galveston Avenue for about four hours.
Any witnesses to the crash were asked to call Bend police at 541-322-2960, referencing case No. 2017-00070368.
