Bend immigration attorney reacts to new travel order
President Trump signed a new executive order Monday on a revised travel ban, after the original order was halted by a federal circuit court.
The federal government said the 90-day-period would give officials more time to properly vet immigrants coming in from countries such as Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Iran and Yemen.
The new ban removes Iraq from the list. as the country stated it will increase cooperation with the U.S. government on vetting of its citizens who are applying for a visa to travel to the U.S.
Dan Larsson, a Bend attorney who focuses on immigration cases, told NewsChannel 21 the new order could stand in the court system.
“The ban seems to be more measured and narrowed and likely to pass enough scrutiny to move forward,” Larsson said.
As the new travel ban was unveiled on Monday, Larsson’s office and many others are trying to understand these executive orders coming out of the White House.
“The problem right now is that all these different agencies are trying to adjust with the new administration and some of these orders that are coming out,” he said.
The Trump administration is looking at keeping its campaign promise of “extreme vetting” when it comes to refugees coming into the country.
