An Oregon State Police trooper stopped and arrested a Grants Pass woman Saturday night on DUII charges in a rear-end crash on Interstate 5 that killed one person and seriously injured another, troopers said Saturday.

Around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, OSP troopers and medics responded to a reported single vehicle crash on southbound I-5 at milepost 59 in Grants Pass, said Lt. Cari Boyd.

A preliminary investigation indicates a black 2000 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Kim Parsley, 62, of Glendale, Oregon was heading south when it was rear-ended by a 2010 Subaru Legacy driven by Lindsey Johnson, 28, of Grants Pass, who fled the scene, Boyd said.

The crash caused the Jetta to flip onto its top and collide with a guardrail. Kim Parsley was trapped in the car and emergency workers had to cut away the wreckage to remove the man.

Parsley’s passenger, Ashlan Parsley, 18 and also from Glendale, was able to remove herself from the vehicle but sustained serious injuries, Boyd said.

Both of the occupants were taken to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass. Kim Parsley later was taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, where he died from his injuries, Boyd said.

About 20 minutes after the crash, a trooper who left the crash scene stopped a Subaru about a mile away for a lighting violation and it had been involved in the crash. Johnson was identified as the driver and arrested for DUII.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Grants Pass Fire and ODOT. The crash is still under investigation and OSP is working with the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office for review of additional charges, Boyd said.
