Bones found near trail in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police opened a death investigation after hikers discovered bones near a trail.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says the hikers reported finding the bones Sunday afternoon in southwest Portland.

Simpson says the bones appear to be human. They were taken to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for further examination.

He says it’s too early to say if the death was the result of foul play.
