Eugene woman convicted of assaulting child in her care
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene woman has been found guilty of abusing and assaulting a 3-year-old child who was in her care.
The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/p8qWx5 ) that Lane County jurors convicted Sabrina Harmon late Monday morning after beginning deliberations Friday.
Harmon testified that she spanked the child for misbehaving, but never hard enough to cause injuries. Her primary defense was that the youngster was injured during a series of self-harming behaviors.
Harmon was found guilty of multiple charges. One of them – first-degree assault – carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 7 ½ years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 17.
The 32-year-old Harmon was in a relationship with the child’s father.
The child, now 5, lives with foster parents.
