Newberg woman admits helping roommate in fiery suicide
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 76-year-old woman whose roommate died in a fiery suicide has pleaded guilty to providing help that included bringing the gasoline.
KOIN-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2pR8L3S) that 76-year-old Edna Bennet of Newberg pleaded guilty Friday to negligent homicide and three counts of first-degree arson.
She faces up to 25 years in prison but as part of the deal is expected to get 18 months plus supervised probation at her June 5 sentencing.
Bennett admitted she supplied the victim, Ana Frigine-York, with the gasoline she used to light herself on fire June 1.
Bennett told police she brought six 2-gallon gas cans to the house.
Bennett said she followed the roommate’s request to remove personal belongings, leave the mobile home and after the fire distribute a letter to police.
