Redmond mayor names ‘If I Were Mayor’ student contest winners

Redmond Mayor George Endicott announced the winners of the 2017 “If I Were Mayor, I Would…” student contest during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

Redmond students from fourth to 12th grades are encouraged to enter the annual contest sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association.

Sydney Cassaro, Tom McCall Elementary, produced the winning poster of the thirty creative entries submitted and Brody Gobler, Elton Gregory Middle School, wrote the winning essay of the twenty-four submitted.

Mayor Endicott personally awarded the winner from each category a $100 bill. Winning entries from Redmond will be entered in the statewide contest, where three students will receive iPad computers. Statewide winners will be notified (along with their mayor) in mid-July.

The 2017 If I Were Mayor, I Would Contest…” student contest winners, by category:

4 th – 6 th grade Poster Category

Winner – Sydney Cassaro, Teacher – Mrs. Wheeler Tom McCall Elementary 5 th grade

Runner-Up – Jace Torres, Teacher – Mrs. Wheeler Tom McCall Elementary 5 th grade

Honorable Mention – Grace Stott, Teacher – Mrs. Dawn Alexander, Tom McCall Elementary 5 th grade

7 th – 8 th grade Essay Category

Winner – Brody Gobler, Teacher – Mrs. Kelli Grey, Elton Gregory 7 th grade

Runner Up – Victoria Stout, Teacher – Mrs. Grey, Elton Gregory 7 th grade

Honorable Mention – Kal Ray Parsley, Teacher – Mrs. Ginny McPherson, Redmond Proficiency Academy 8 th grade
