Klamath Falls man killed, 2 seriously hurt in Hwy. 97 crash
(Update: Details of Klamath County crash)
A Klamath Falls man was killed and a Chiloquin couple seriously injured in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 97 near Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon State Police reported.
The crash was reported just after 3 p.m., when a maroon 1992 Ford Tempo being driven by Gregory John Guidi, 63, of Klamath Falls, was heading north and for an unknown reason drove into the southbound lane, said OSP Sgt. Yvette Shephard.
The Ford collided head-on with a black 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Robert Hougen, 51, and passenger Phyllis Hougen, 53, both of Chiloquin.
Guidi was pronounced dead at the crash scene after Chiloquin Fire medics attempted life-saving measures. The Hougens were taken by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls with serious injuries, Shephard said.
The sergeant said seat belts were not being worn and that it’s not believed intoxicants were a contributing factor.
The crash shut the highway for about 3 ½ hours. OSP was assisted by the Chiloquin Fire Department, Klamath Fire District No. 1 and ODOT.
Another deadly crash earlier in the day tied up traffic for hours on state Highway 230 near Diamond Lake, and there was a third on Highway 97 north of Terrebonne late Friday afternoon.
