Prineville PD seek hit-and-run driver who struck teen cyclist
Prineville police said Wednesday they are trying to find a hit-and-run driver who struck a teen bicyclist in an intersection Tuesday evening, causing a concussion and damaging his bike.
Officer Rob Gray said the crash occurred around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday in the intersection at North Main and Northeast Third Street.
A 17-year-old male juvenile said he was riding his bike south on Main Street and stopped in the left turn lane, waiting to proceed, Gray said.
The teen said he started the turn when the light changed to the green turn arrow when a vehicle he described as a blue Geo Tracker-type with a black hard top struck him from behind, causing him to crash to the pavement.
The vehicle fled the scene, Gray said, and no one stopped to help the teen, who reported the crash when he returned home. The officer said Prineville police dispatchers received no other calls about the crash.
The teen’s minor skin injuries were checked out by medics and he was taken by family members to St. Charles Prineville, where he was reported to have had a concussion.
Gray said police investigating the case were reviewing any possible video footage along Main Street that might have captured the collision.
In turning to the public, the officer asked that any witnesses to call Prineville Police non-emergency at 541-447-4168. Also, anyone who sees a similar vehicle in the area is asked not to take any action, but if they can safely get the license plate or a driver description, they are asked to call non-emergency dispatchers.
