Fire destroys La Pine-area home, spreads to brush

KTVZ

Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a family’s mobile home west of La Pine Saturday afternoon and sparked a half-acre wildfire but caused no injuries, officials said Sunday.

The fire in the 16000 block of Dyke Road was called in by several people around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, including someone living in an RV on the property who tried to douse the flames with a garden house, said Capt. Fred Franklin of the La Pine Rural Fire District.

The first crews to arrive found the home about 50 percent involved, with flames spreading into the wildland and also crossing a property line to threaten a neighbor’s home, Franklin said.

Two state Department of Forestry engine crews and one with the U.S. Forest Service responded to help stop the spreading fire.

The American Red Cross said it sent disaster responders to help the four people affected by the blaze, including three adults and a child. They provided resources to help with immediate basic needs, such as temporary housing, food, clothing and “comfort kits.”
