OSP identifies Hillsboro man killed in Highway 20 crash

A 30-year-old Hillsboro resident was killed Friday evening when his motorcycle was struck by an oncoming car on Highway 20 west of Sisters, Oregon State Police said Saturday.

OSP troopers and emergency personnel responded around 5 p.m. to the report of a car-vs.-motorcycle crash on the highway near milepost 93, said OSP Capt. Bill Fugate.

An initial investigation found that Walter Bonilla, 20, of Los Angeles, was at the wheel of a 2015 Nissan Altima, heading west on the highway when he drifted across the centerline and into the path of an eastbound Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Andrew Hensley of Hillsboro, Fugate said.

The two vehicles collided, throwing Hensley, who died en route to the hospital. Bonilla and his two passengers received minor injuries, Fugate said.

“Fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash,” Fugate said in Saturday’s news release.

The crash and investigation closed Highway 20 for a time and reduced it to one lane for four hours. OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and the Black Butte Ranch police and fire agencies.

Fugate said more information will be released when appropriate in the ongoing investigation.
