Missing SE Bend man, subject of search, found OK
(Update: Missing man found, OK)
A 64-year-old southeast Bend man missing for more than a day, prompting a wide-ranging search, turned up safely Tuesday afternoon at a northeast Bend business, police said.
Kevin Akers was located at the unnamed business about 12:45 p.m. and reunited with his family, officers said.
“The Bend Police Department would like to thank the many citizens and Deschutes County Search and Rescue for their assistance with the search for Mr. Akers,” the update stated.
Bend police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies had continued to search the area of the Foxborough subdivision in southeast Bend Tuesday and to seek the public’s help in finding Akers, who was reported to be in danger and possibly experiencing a medical emergency.
Deschutes County dispatchers advised around 3 p.m. Monday that officers and deputies were looking for Akers, last seen around 12:30 p.m. at his home near Songbird Lane and most likely on foot in the area, officials said.
“He may have suffered a medical episode, leaving him disoriented,” police said at the time. “We are additionally concerned due to the extremely hot weather conditions at this time.”
The message was broadcast to a wider area by email early Monday evening in hopes for more eyes watching for Akers as the search continued.
