Fire destroys unoccupied home at Crooked River Ranch
An unoccupied rental home at Crooked River Ranch was destroyed by a fire Saturday night that spread to nearby trees and grass, prompting hours of work by firefighters to douse the blaze.
Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue was dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. to the report of a double-wide mobile home engulfed in flames in the 5700 block of Southwest Shad Road, said Assistant Fire Chief Sean Hartley.
First-arriving crews found the home ablaze and flames spreading to nearby trees and grass, Hartley said. A live power line also was found on the ground, which a Pacific Power crews was called out to disconnect.
A water shuttle was set up to supply water for firefighting efforts. Hartley said the fire was contained to the one home and nearby trees and grass by crews who were on scene until about 2:30 a.m.
The owners of the rental home did not have a tenant at the time of the fire, the official said. The structure and contents were a total loss, and several fire-damaged trees were felled due to safety concerns.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hartley said.
A total of 16 firefighters responded, including 11 volunteers, with four engines and three water tenders. Mutual aid also was provided by Redmond Fire and Rescue, the Cloverdale Fire District and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
