Public meeting Sept 19 on Crooked River Scenic Bikeway

KTVZ

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting for a proposed Oregon Scenic Bikeway from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Room 1868, 152 NW 4th Street in Prineville.

The 37-mile Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway takes visitors from the community of Prineville, across the farm and ranch fields of the Crooked River Valley, then through the deeply carved and dramatic Crooked River Canyon.

Riders pass by pastures of grazing cows and llama, then under dramatic basalt cliffs and pillars, while following the route of the Wild and Scenic Crooked River. Riders travel out and back, cycling in one direction and then returning the same way.

The meeting will consist of a presentation on the Oregon Scenic Bikeway Program, information on the proposed Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway and then questions from attendees.

Public comments on the proposed bikeway will be taken at the meeting and written comments will be accepted before and after the meeting until the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission acts on the proposed designation. Those comments will be presented to the commission before the vote.

The State Scenic Bikeway Program designates the best-of-the-best road bike riding in Oregon. The program includes 16 designated bikeways listed at http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=thingstodo.dsp_scenicBikeways.

Send comments about the proposed bikeway to Alex Phillips at alex.phillips@oregon.gov or to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept., ATTN: Alexandra Phillips, 725 Summer St NE, Suite C, Salem, OR 97301-1266.
