Fire spotted near woodstove damages La Pine home

A fire that began in the ceiling around a woodstove pipe damaged a La Pine mobile home Sunday morning, officials said.

A resident in the 15900 block of Fir Lane reported the fire to Deschutes County dispatchers around 7:45 a.m. They said they tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher but was not successful, so they called 911 and the two people and their two dogs evacuated the home, said Captain Gary Young of the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District.

The first unit arrived to find smoke showing from the eaves of an approximately 1,400-square-foot double-wide mobile home, Young said. The fire burned in the living room, with some extension into the attic space.

Crews attacked the fire and quickly contained and knocked it down. The rest of the home was checked for any further extension and crews conducted salvage and overhaul operations. A total of 13 personnel were on scene for about an hour and 15 minutes.

There were no injuries in the fire at the home, which was insured, Young said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The occupants declined any assistance from the American Red Cross, the lieutenant added.
