Man shot, killed near Portland State University

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting near Portland State University.
 
Portland police Sgt. Chris Burley says gunfire was reported shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday and officers from the city and university found the dying man in front of a Subway restaurant near the South Park Blocks.
 
Burley says officers provided aid, but the man was dead by the time paramedics arrived.
 
Witnesses told investigators they saw several people running from the scene after hearing gunfire.
 
Officers searched the southwest Portland neighborhood, but couldn’t find the suspect.
 
Burley says evidence of gunfire was found near the fast-food restaurant, which was closed when the shooting occurred.
 
An autopsy is planned.
