Redmond-area neighborhood on edge after burglaries

The Tetherow Crossing neighborhood west of Redmond is worried about a growing burglary problem.

On Tuesday, a family’s home in the neighborhood was burglarized, and the thief stole items worth $15,000 to $20,000.

A call came into the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office at 3:16 p.m., and officials were told the burglar locked the family’s dog in a room while he or she moved through the rest of the house.

It’s the second burglary of the month in the small neighborhood, the other coming on Nov. 2. The mood in the area is alert at best and scared at worst.

“Why my house?” burglary victim Cory Christensen asked Wednesday. “Why me? Not that you want it to be anybody else. Then you’ve got the kids. The kids are kind of afraid to be there, because somebody came into your house that you don’t know. So absolutely, I don’t feel safe.”

A next-door neighbor of the victims said she’s now nervous about her children coming home. She also mentioned her home was burglarized last year.
